It was too quiet, so I went to see what Max was doing. He had climbed up in the recliner with his favorite A to Z Picture Book (illustrated by Gyo Fujikawa—I HIGHLY recommend this book) and was just quietly reading. What a lucky parent am I!
Maxwell reading quietly next to Andrew in an enormous new chair (see previous post on recent furniture adventures). It's the same book.
Max drinking from a coconut that came all the way from Likiep Atoll. Andrew went there (and Woje) on Embassy business. He might post on it sometime.
I finally bought a bob fruit (pronounced bup—English "pandanus"). Isn't it beautiful? You can chew the segments (called "keys") raw, although the spaces between your teeth will be maddeningly full of fibers from the fruit; you can suck on the boiled keys, which has a slightly different flavor but is much less maddening; or you can squeeze out the pulp from the boiled keys, which is an agonizingly long process if you get the smaller kind of bob, as I did. I should have gotten the cooking bob, which is huge. I made pandanus cake from one of the Wellness Center recipes (thanks Kristin) and it was absolutely delicious and very healthy.
Honestly, if we all just ate pandanus (bob) and breadfruit (ma) and fish (ek) and coconuts (ni and waini), we'd get all of our nutrients. Amazing how it evolved to be that way. And how instead we eat fried chicken and white rice and potato chips and soda. Stepping off of soapbox now.
And here is Max smiling for the camera, though I took a video on purpose because he was acting so funny:

What a dear boy you have!
In response to your question, I have a canon rebel with a basic 50 mm lens. I'm hoping to upgrade both soon because I can tell that things are going south. I do, however, have a serious love for photoshop. That could be part of it - or most of it ;) Thanks!
I also have a canon s95 point and shoot that I just barely got for video and everything that my 50mm couldn't capture. LOVE it. Its pictures are almost as good as a bigger camera and its itsy bitsy)
Hi Jamie,
A friend referred me to your blog. A job opportunity has come up for my husband in the Marshall Islands. We live in Utah and I have no idea what it is like there. What I need to take, schools, church I am not worried about, it is great everywhere. Could you send me some tips. We would be living on Majuro. Any advice and help would be great. My email is - oneorangegiraffe@hotmail.com
Thanks,
Vicky Heiner
