A Prophet + Jamie's Mission President + Warning about Angry Birds = A Better Jamie

It is only this week that my ward will be watching (in Marshallese) the semi-annual LDS General Conference, which is broadcast at the beginning of October and April. I love Conference. Fortunately, we have a moderately good internet connection, so I've been able to watch most of it, Max permitting.

I've had three favorite talks so far. The first is by our modern-day prophet, Thomas Monson. He has some good and important reminders about some basics that everyone should know. I know that he is a true prophet. How do I know that? Long story. Short answer: I read the Book of Mormon and prayed about it.

The second is by my mission president, Tad Callister (not a mission president anymore—he's now in the Presidency of the Seventy), a very intelligent and very humble man. I was so lucky to be under his leadership as a missionary. In this talk he answers why the Book of Mormon is an important book of scripture in addition to the Bible. It is so good. Don't pass it up! He also answers the question of why there are so many different Christian churches that all have different doctrines.

And the third is by Ian Ardern about the importance of time and how social messages (Facebook, texting, yea, even blogging) can usurp our time when we should be spending it doing better things. It is a fantastic reminder of why we are here in this world. And what in the world I'M doing here on the edge of this world.
